Do You Know About Peristaltic Pump Tubing?

The characteristics of peristaltic pump tubing

A peristaltic pump tubing is one of the main components of a peristaltic pump, mainly used for conveying liquids, gases, and gas-solid mixtures. Peristaltic pump tubing has certain characteristics such as elasticity, wear resistance, pressure resistance, high temperature resistance, aging resistance, and corrosion resistance. The working temperature range of peristaltic pump tubing is an important performance indicator. Peristaltic pump tubing materials include silicone rubber, rubber, polytetrafluoroethylene, plastic, synthetic materials, etc. Different materials have different properties and different uses. Different materials have different temperature ranges.

When selecting peristaltic pump tubing, users should first clarify that the peristaltic pump needs to achieve high and low temperatures when working in the system, and then ensure that the selected peristaltic pump tubing is within the safe operating range. In applications where the temperature needs to be gradually increased, users should consider the chemical resistance and pressure resistance of peristaltic pump tubing. As the temperature increases, the pressure of peristaltic pump tubing will gradually decrease.

Tolerances of peristaltic pump tubing

Tolerance refers to the allowable error in the size of peristaltic pump tubing. The smaller the tolerance, the smaller the performance deviation of peristaltic pump tubing, and the better the consistency and repeatability. The larger the tolerance, the more unstable the performance of peristaltic pump tubing will be. Some pump tubing has very small manufacturing tolerances, and its size deviation is strictly controlled during extrusion molding. Although pump tubing with smaller manufacturing tolerances is slightly more expensive, compared with the improvement of pumping performance, this cost is still worth it.

The cost of peristaltic pump tubing

Cost is almost always a factor to consider when developing any project plan. Just like when selecting other components, users should evaluate the entire cost of using alternative pump tubing. For example, a certain peristaltic pump tubing is priced at $2 per foot and needs to be replaced every 500 hours; while another peristaltic pump tubing is priced at $1 per foot and needs to be replaced every 100 hours. The cost-effectiveness of the former is higher than that of the latter. The sudden rupture of low-quality peristaltic pump tubing can cause the loss of valuable fluids or damage to the pump, causing high-cost downtime and a large amount of maintenance, even replacing the entire pump.

Therefore, cheap peristaltic pump tubing is not necessarily an economic choice. It may seem unlikely to select an ideal pump tubing from a wide range of pump tubing markets. However, as long as the system requirements are carefully studied, relevant technical indicators are referred to, and close communication is maintained with pump tubing manufacturers or suppliers with application knowledge and experience, peristaltic pump tubing that is suitable for the relevant pump system can be selected.
