The Role of Peristaltic Pumps in Nucleic Acid Testing

In the past, peristaltic pumps were mostly used in laboratories. But after redesign, the flow rate and pressure of this type of pump have been increased. Now, a large number of peristaltic pumps have been successfully applied to chemical process control and production fields.


Understanding peristaltic pump 


Peristaltic pumps consist of three parts:drivers, pump heads, and hoses. The fluid is isolated in the pump tube, the pump tube can be quickly replaced, the fluid can flow in reverse, it can run dry, the maintenance cost is low, and other features constitute the main competitive advantage.  Peristaltic pump is a new type of industrial pump. 


It is a product of modern industrial development and is widely used in industries such as pharmaceuticals, food, and chemical engineering to transport media with some sensitivity, viscosity, strong corrosiveness, grinding effects, high purity requirements, and medium with certain particle materials. Peristaltic pump has high cleanliness and no pollution. The liquid only touches the hose and does not touch the pump body, which is easy to clean, and the hose can be replaced in seconds.

The normal operation of RT-PCR nucleic acid detection is critical to have qualified nucleic acid detection reagents. This reagent can quickly detect the nucleic acid of the virus in respiratory or blood samples and is an important basis for diagnosing whether the virus is infected. In the manufacturing process of nucleic acid detection reagents, filling the reagent into the detection reagent box is an important link. The single-hole capacity is generally from tens of microliters to several milliliters, and the different reagent capacities in the same detection reagent box have a fixed ratio.  


The filling process has higher requirements for the process


  • It has a high hygiene level. The entire production process is carried out in a high-cleanliness workshop. There can be no pollution in all places that come into contact with the reagent, and it can be easily cleaned and disinfected. 

  • High precision. According to different capacities, the general precision error requirements are from ±0.2% to ±1%. Third, high efficiency. Usually, it is required to fill 6 to 18 holes at the same time, and complete one cycle in 0.5 seconds to 1.5 seconds. 


Generally, peristaltic pumps are suitable for filling from 100 microliters to 10 milliliters, and micro-injection pumps are suitable for filling from 10 to 1000 microliters. 


Both products can set the filling volume and speed directly and work once they receive the trigger signal from the upper computer. Of course, if there is no upper computer, adding a small amount of accessories can be transformed into a convenient semi-automatic manual filling machine.
